Reasonable and necessary

Reasonable and necessary is the test set out in the NDIS legislation for what a plan can include. It looks at whether a support relates to a participant’s disability, represents value for money, and is an effective way to help them pursue their goals.

The NDIS funds supports it decides are reasonable and necessary for your goals. The same item can be approved for one participant and not another, so no list or website can tell you what your plan will include.

This test applies at every planning meeting and every plan reassessment, which is why identical requests can lead to different outcomes for different participants.
