GEAT & geat2GO

Goods, equipment and assistive technology through the aged care system.

GEAT stands for goods, equipment and assistive technology - the equipment stream of the Commonwealth Home Support Programme, the entry-level aged care program. geat2GO is the national service that delivers it: an Australian Government initiative run by Indigo, the appointed national GEAT provider, helping older people access devices and equipment to keep living independently. GEAT is a separate program with its own rules and its own application process - NDIS rules do not apply to it.

Who it serves

The service is for older people in the Commonwealth Home Support Programme. Getting there takes two steps: registration with My Aged Care, then a referral from an approved professional - an occupational therapist, physiotherapist, speech pathologist, optometrist, orthoptist, or one of the aged care assessment organisations. The referrer, not the client, places the order through the geat2GO platform.

How ordering works

Referring professionals use geat2GO to compare items, place orders, and track them, supported by Indigo's customer service and clinical teams. Products are sourced through supply partners and reviewed by an equipment review group for quality and pricing. Orders can include Australia-wide delivery, assembly and installation, matched to the goals in the client's support plan.

GEAT, Support at Home, and AT-HM

Two aged-care equipment pathways currently run in parallel. Support at Home participants use the AT-HM scheme, with its assessed tiers. Commonwealth Home Support Programme clients use GEAT, which the government is renaming "equipment and products" as the programs align. CHSP itself is due to transition into Support at Home no earlier than July 2027. Until then, which pathway applies depends on which aged care program serves you. Eligibility for the Commonwealth Home Support Programme is decided by the program itself. The official program pages have the current criteria and application forms.

Frequently asked questions

What is geat2GO?

geat2GO is the national ordering service for goods, equipment and assistive technology under the Commonwealth Home Support Programme, run by Indigo as the appointed national GEAT provider. Referring professionals use it to order equipment for eligible aged care clients, with delivery, assembly and installation options across Australia.

Who can access GEAT?

Access starts with My Aged Care registration. A referral then comes from an approved professional: an occupational therapist, physiotherapist, speech pathologist, optometrist or orthoptist, or an aged care assessment organisation. The referrer places the geat2GO order, so the first step is raising equipment needs during your assessment.

Is GEAT the same as AT-HM under Support at Home?

No. The two run in parallel. AT-HM is the assistive technology pathway inside Support at Home, with assessed funding tiers. GEAT serves Commonwealth Home Support Programme clients, and CHSP is due to move into Support at Home no earlier than July 2027. Which pathway applies depends on your aged care program.

What equipment does GEAT supply?

The service supplies goods, equipment and assistive technology sourced through supply partners, with items reviewed by geat2GO's equipment review group for quality and pricing. Orders can include Australia-wide delivery, assembly and installation. Your referring professional matches items to the goals in your support plan.
