DVA Rehabilitation Appliances Program

The Rehabilitation Appliances Program is a Department of Veterans' Affairs scheme that supplies aids, equipment, and home or vehicle modifications to eligible veterans, to help them live safely and independently. It is separate from the NDIS and has its own eligibility and its own process.

Who it is for

Eligibility rests on an assessed clinical need together with holding either a Veteran Gold Card, or a Veteran White Card where the treatment is for a condition that card covers.

How it works

Access runs through a GP or a referred health professional, who assesses clinical need, prescribes the item, seeks DVA approval where required, and sends the prescription to a DVA-contracted supplier who delivers and installs it at no cost to the veteran. Buying an item without that prior assessment risks it not being covered.

The equipment range spans mobility, hearing and vision, continence, respiratory devices, personal alarms, and more, as listed in the RAP National Schedule of Equipment on the DVA website.
