Local area coordinator (LAC)

A local area coordinator, or LAC, is an organisation the NDIA contracts to work with people in a particular region. They help with access requests, planning meetings, and connecting participants and the broader community with mainstream and community services.

A local area coordinator acts on the NDIA’s behalf rather than being chosen and paid by the participant, which sets the role apart from a support coordinator engaged through plan funding.

Not every region uses a local area coordinator model. Some areas are served directly by NDIA planners or by an early childhood partner instead, depending on location and a participant’s age.
