How the tiers work
AT-HM groups assistive technology into tiers by cost and complexity, from simple aids up to substantial equipment and home modifications. Each tier has an annual cap, which is the ceiling the program will contribute at that level. The tiers and caps are shown below, drawn from the constants file.
Which tier applies is set by an assessment of a person’s needs, not by choosing a tier off a list. A larger cap is not a target; it reflects higher-cost, higher-complexity supports that fewer people need.
AT-HM sits outside the NDIS
Support at Home, and the AT-HM scheme within it, is run by the Department of Health for older people. It is separate from the NDIS, with its own rules, its own assessment, and its own application.
