What NDIS support workers do, the current hourly price limits by day and time, and how hours are claimed.
Support work is the hands-on layer of the scheme: a worker who assists with showering and dressing, meal preparation, medication prompts, household routines, and getting out the door - to appointments, activities, work, or simply the shops. The relationship is practical and personal, which is why choosing and keeping good support workers matters so much to how a plan feels day to day.
Pricing follows the clock, not just the hour count. The Support Catalogue publishes separate items for weekday daytime, evening, and night hours, and for Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays - each with its own price limit, all tabled below alongside the equivalent community-access items. Cancellation rules are also stricter here than for therapies: support worker bookings carry a longer notice window, shown in the claiming table.
Does the NDIS fund support work?
The NDIS funds supports it decides are reasonable and necessary for your goals. The same item can be approved for one participant and not another, so no list or website can tell you what your plan will include.
Support Work appears under Assistance with Daily Life (Core) in the current NDIS Support Catalogue. Whether support work supports can be claimed depends on your individual plan, your goals, and how your funding is managed. Your plan manager or support coordinator can confirm what applies to you.

How support work is claimed
Supports are billed against the item codes above, at or below the price limit, under a service agreement that records the agreed price, how provider travel is charged, and the cancellation terms. Invoices quote the item code, the date, the quantity, and the rate - which is what plan managers check before paying.
How your plan is managed - self-managed, plan-managed, or agency-managed - changes who you can buy from and how invoices are paid. Your plan documents state which applies to you. Agency-managed participants generally need to purchase through registered NDIS providers. Self-managed and plan-managed participants can buy from any suitable supplier.

Provider registration
Self-care support items sit in registration group 0107 (Daily Personal Activities), one of the general registration groups in the Pricing Arrangements. Registration is voluntary for providers serving self- and plan-managed participants, and the Commission's public register records who holds it.
Invoices and agreements for support work
Two documents carry the admin: the service agreement sets the price, travel billing, and cancellation terms before supports start, and the invoice quotes the item code and rate so the claim goes through first time.

What notice do I have to give to cancel a shift?
Disability support worker bookings carry a longer short-notice window than therapy appointments - the exact windows are in the claiming table above. Inside the window, a provider who cannot redeploy the worker can bill the agreed fee, and may waive it. Your service agreement must document the cancellation terms.
Can support workers take me out into the community?
Yes - community access is its own set of catalogue items, priced by day and time like self-care hours and tabled above. The worker's hours bill against those items; your own costs in the community, like tickets or meals, are everyday expenses and stay outside the claim.
